How we clean your sofa
- 1
Check the care tag.
W, S, WS or X tells us what is safe. If there's no tag, we test a hidden spot first.
- 2
Dry soil removal.
A thorough vacuum, including under the cushions and down the sides where crumbs and hair collect.
- 3
Pre-treat.
We work on spots, arms and headrest areas before the main clean.
- 4
Clean to the fabric.
Hot water extraction for most W and WS fabrics, with fabric-safe products; low-moisture methods where the tag says S (solvent). We never soak leather or delicate finishes.
- 5
Groom and dry.
We set the pile, talk you through drying, and leave the room usable as soon as it's safe.
Fabric vs leather sofas
| Fabric | Leather | |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Usually water-based extraction where the tag allows | Low-moisture / leather-safe cleaners; no soaking |
| Price | Base size price | Quote on survey |
| Risk if wrong method | Shrinkage, water marks, colour run | Drying out, finish damage |
We say upfront when leather or a delicate fabric costs more. For other furniture (chairs, recliners, office seats), see upholstery cleaning. Carpets too? See carpet cleaning.
Sofa beds, corner units and removable covers
Not every sofa is a simple three-seater, and the awkward ones need a bit more thought.
Sofa bed. A pull-out bed has a metal frame and a mattress tucked inside. We clean the outer upholstery the same way as any sofa, but we keep moisture away from the mechanism so nothing rusts or sticks. If you'd like the mattress done as well, mention it when you book so we can quote for it and allow the time.
Corner units and L-shapes. These have more seats, more seams and often a chaise end that gets the most use. We price them by size rather than per seat, and we clean every section to the same standard so you don't end up with one bright corner and a dull chaise. Modular pieces are easier if they can be pulled apart a little so we can reach the joins.
Removable covers. A zip on a cushion doesn't always mean the cover is meant to be washed. Many covers are dry-clean only, and some shrink so they never fit the foam again. We read the label on the covers as well as the sofa. Where it says not to wash, we clean the cover in place on the cushion. We won't wash a cover against what its tag says.
If you're not sure what you've got, send us a photo of the sofa and its care tag when you ask for a quote.
Getting ready for your sofa clean
A little prep on your side means we spend the visit cleaning, not shifting things around.
- Clear the sofa. Take off throws, scatter cushions you'd rather we didn't clean, blankets and anything tucked down the sides.
- Move small items. Side tables, lamps, toys and plants near the sofa. We'll need room to work around it.
- Pets out of the room. For their comfort and ours, and so they don't sit on damp fabric straight after.
- Plan for drying. Open a window or keep the heating on low afterwards. Good airflow helps the fabric dry evenly.
- Tell us what's been used before. If you've tried a stain remover, carpet spray or a previous professional clean, let us know what it was. Some products leave residue or set a stain, and that changes how we treat it.
- Point out problem areas. Show us the spills, pet spots or marks that bother you most so we can pre-treat them first.
Drying time and what to expect
Drying: We'll give you a realistic drying window on the day, depending on the fabric, the weather and how well the room is ventilated.
Stains: fresh spills clean better than old, set-in marks. Some stains lighten rather than vanish. We tell you that before we start, not after.
Pets, kids and stains
Common jobs: pet odour in cushions, food and drink spills, pen and makeup. We pre-treat what we can see and explain the limits on odour that has soaked deep into the foam. Results depend on the fabric and how old the stain is.
